A night of no rules turns into something wildly unexpected for Chloe when she decides to face her fears and approach a mysterious but beautiful man in Prince of Noctis (Hallow’s Flesh: Book 1) by Faceless.
Chloe is dying, quite literally. With only a short time left to live, she and her best friend, Ollie, make a pact to be daring, beginning with an evening out at the newest nightclub. When a man sitting across the bar catches Chloe’s attention, she decides that a one-night stand might be exactly what she needs to prove something to herself. However, the man she chooses, Kai, has an agenda of his own.
What begins as a short fling becomes more than either of them had planned as their relationship builds. How will she handle telling Kai the truth? Should she reveal that she is dying and risk breaking his heart, or should she end things before the inevitable happens? Or could there be a third option, one she never imagined, that offers the possibility of escaping death altogether?
This book is a fun paranormal romance that embraces several familiar vampire-romance tropes, including the handsome, mysterious vampire and the kind-hearted human drawn into his world. However, the story gives those elements a fresh angle by centering on a heroine with an expiration date and a vampire who initially wants nothing to do with her. I also found the antagonist inventive, especially the explanation of their powers and abilities.
Prince of Noctis is an engaging start to the series that blends familiar vampire romance elements with enough fresh twists to stand out. Readers who enjoy paranormal romance with danger, desire, and a touch of darkness will likely find this book an entertaining read and may be eager to see where the series goes next.
